The efficiency of the underfloor heating system being used will depend on the kind of vinyl flooring that you are using. Vinyl flooring comes in many types. Their unique properties are what influences the specification requirement of underfloor heating systems. Prior to purchasing a heating system, it is very important that you talk to a professional regarding the type of vinyl flooring that you are using. Our team at Heavenly Heat is happy to help you make the most informed decision. To meet your heating needs, we may recommend one of three underfloor heating systems.
This is a unique system made of heating cables which are interwoven to form flexible strips. These mats are easy to install and thanks to their flexibility they can be installed in cramped floor layouts as well as around existing fixtures. It is also good to note that they are just 1/8 inches thick which means they don’t affect the floor levels.
Easy Mat has three heat requirement strengths; 12, 15 and 20 Watts per square foot. If you plan on using underfloor heating as the primary source of heat, the 20 Watts per square foot option will be great. To use as a secondary source of heating, 12 or 15 Watts per square foot will be fine.
EasyWire is available with heat requirement strengths that range from 10 to 20 Watts per square foot. The 20 Watt per square foot is ideal if you plan on using EasyWire as the primary source of heat in a room. 10 Watts per square foot is recommended when you just want to heat the floors and use underfloor heating simply as a secondary source of heat. The system uses the ordinary current that is already in your home which makes it easy to install. The heating element is 1/8 inches thick. It does not raise the level of the floors. A thermostat can be installed to regulate heat in various heating zones.
This is the third option we recommend for use with vinyl and LVT flooring. The system is cUL listed and is designed for both residential and industrial applications. The unique feature is that the heating cable increases or decreases the heat output depending on the surrounding temperature. This feature eliminates the risk of overheating. Self-regulating cable is energy efficient and poses zero risks of burnout/overheating.
If you are stranded on the type of heating system to use with your vinyl or LVT floors, we encourage you to contact us for expert advice. At Heavenly Heat, we are always happy to hear from you and offer the assistance you need.
When it comes to vinyl floors, the maximum temperature of the heating system should not go above 81 degrees F. When working with us, we use state-of-the-art thermostats to ensure the right temperature is achieved. Our floor probe is programmed to vinyl so as to guarantee the system never goes above 81 degrees F.
We have several thermostats to meet your unique needs in underfloor heating. It doesn’t matter if you need a thermostat with smart features or a standard one, we have you covered. We guarantee that you enjoy heated floors safely and efficiently. Our thermostats will give you complete control of the heating settings as well as enable you to enjoy a warm room without incurring high energy bills. Get in touch with us now to find out more about our thermostats.
In the installation of underfloor heating for vinyl floors, we require that everything, underlay and final floor finish included, be within the limits in the table below. If the manufacturer of your vinyl flooring dictates that it has to be installed together with an underlay, the underlay should be between 3mm and 6mm thick and breathable.
Care has to be taken to guarantee that there is effective heating system performance. At Heavenly Heat we never recommend the installation of the heating system under vinyl floors if the below limits are not sufficiently met. This is because failure to satisfy the limits can lead to performance issues.
Transfer of Heat Limits | |
Tog | Not more than 2.5 |
RSI | Not more than 0.25 |
R-value (US) | Not more than 1.42 |
U-value | Not less than 4.0 |
