There are many benefits that come with heating under the carpet. The first benefit is improved hygiene. The main drawback of carpets is that they absorb a lot of dust. When using conventional radiators, the air circulation caused by the radiators will cause these dust particles to rise thus reintroducing them into the air. This can be devastating for persons with respiratory problems. Underfloor heating does not rely on air circulation to work. It relies on radiation which means it heats up objects rather than the air. As a result of this, radiant heat is the ideal heating system to use with carpets.
At Heavenly Heat, we recommend one of three electric heating systems for carpets: EasyMat, EasyWire, or Self-Regulating Cable. Our recommendation will depend on where you want to install the underfloor heating and your budget.
We are very proud of our EasyMat system. It is made of high-quality cables which are woven into flexible strips that can be laid down to cover the area that needs to be heated. These mats are perfect for heating bathrooms, sunrooms, basements, and other rooms where warm floors would improve comfort. Our Easy Mats are available in three heat requirement strengths: 12, 15, and 20 Watts per square foot. If you wish to use the system as a secondary source of heat, we recommend using the 12 Watt per square foot. However, if you need it as a primary source of heat, the 20 Watt per square foot will be perfect.
There are many reasons why you may want to go with the Easy Mat system. The first is the fact that it is 1/8 inches thick. This means once it is installed it will not raise the floor levels. Secondly, Easy Mats are very flexible and can be installed in cramped floor layouts and around fixtures. A thermostat can be installed to maintain the desired temperature.
While it is similar to the Easy Mat, the main difference is the varying heat requirement strengths. Easy Wire is available in heat requirement strengths that range from 10 to 20 Watt per square foot. For use as the primary source of heat in a room, the 20 Watt per square foot heat requirement strength is recommended. The lower watt per square foot options can be used as secondary sources of heat in a room.
Easy Wire operates using the ordinary current that is already in a home thus is very easy to install. It is also 1/8 inches thick which means it doesn’t affect the floor levels. The system is also very flexible and can be installed around fixtures and in a cramped floor layout.
This is a cUL listed parallel heating cable design. It can be used in residential and industrial applications. The unique feature is the fact that the cable regulates its temperature to avoid burn-out or overheating. It will increase or reduce the temperatures based on the surrounding temperatures. As a result, the self-regulating cable is energy efficient, easy to install, low maintenance, and doesn’t burn-out or overheat even when overlapped.
At Heavenly Heat, we understand how hard it can be to choose the best underfloor heating system for your home. That is why we are always eager to hear from you and offer the help you need to make the most informed choice. Give us a call today to find out more about underfloor heating for carpets.
Heavenly Heat has a wide selection of systems to guarantee you end up with the perfect underfloor heating solution for your home.
To get the best results from underfloor heating, you have to pay attention to the thickness of any material that will be placed over the heater. In the case of carpets, it is highly recommended for the carpet to be at least ¼ inches thick and not more than 1 inch thick.
The installed underlay, on the other hand, must have low thermal resistance. The carpet needs to be hessian backed in order to promote the efficient operation of the underfloor heating system. Avoid using felt underlay as it may end up creating a thermal blocker that hinders the effective performance of the heating system.
You can use any type of carpet padding provided it has a density of not less than 6 pounds per cubic foot.
For the best results with underfloor heating, the R-value of your carpet must not be bigger than 1.
When installing an underfloor heating system, the plywood or concrete base where the heating system will be installed should have additional insulation. This causes the system to work more efficiently. Give us a call today to find out more about our insulated underlays which are engineered to promote efficiency.
When using carpets, the floor temperature should not go above 81 degrees F (27 degrees C). Our professional installer will install a thermostat to ensure the underfloor heating system is restricted to the recommended maximum heat. If you need help determining the right heating requirement for your room or need help finding the best underfloor heating system, our experts are here to help.
